Madison Historic District Commission approves rear-door conversion at 498 Boston Post Road. The commission held a special meeting Wednesday evening solely to act on an application it had previously reviewed but held pending receipt of a rear elevation drawing. Commission Chair Tom led a unanimous voice vote approving the project, which replaces two of three existing rear windows with a single door, new steps, and a guardrail, while leaving the remaining window and projecting frame intact.
Applicant representative Mr. Hapland confirmed the remaining window would match existing panes and that no storm door was planned. Members noted the east-facing elevation is "only marginally visible" from Boston Post Road and Cherry Lane, and one commissioner called the design "a little idiosyncratic" but "a good solution" given the constraints of working within a historic structure.
The commission adjourned at 5:39 p.m., nine minutes after convening.
