Madison's Conservation Commission met in a special session to plot a response to a letter from First Selectman Peggy that members say blamed them for late engagement on a synthetic turf project the town never properly referred to them. Meeting via Zoom on May 5, the commission agreed one member would draft a written reply emphasizing that the town, not the commission, bears responsibility for ensuring environmental review happens early in capital projects. Members recounted being removed years ago from automatic liaison roles with Inland Wetlands and Planning and Zoning boards and debated whether their current Board of Selectmen liaison, referred to only as Al, is the right conduit for project information.
The commission took no formal votes and will reconvene May 20 to review the draft response.
