Cheshire Council Endorses Ten-Year Development Plan, Defers 58-Acre Property Push
Cheshire Town Council endorses updated planning blueprint 8-1 and punts on 58-acre state land strategy.
Town Council · Meeting of January 27, 2026
Cheshire Town Council endorses updated planning blueprint 8-1 and punts on 58-acre state land strategy. At a special meeting January 27, the council gave an informal 8-1 endorsement, with member Patricia Cramer abstaining, to a draft Plan of Conservation and Development required under Connecticut General Statutes section 8-23 and due for adoption by the Planning and Zoning Commission before a July 1, 2026 deadline; missing it would bar the town from discretionary state funding. Town Planner Mike and consultant Janelle Clark from Tykee walked the council through a document organized around quality of life, housing diversity, environmental conservation, and transportation connectivity, including an incorporated WPCA sewer map and a provision to investigate adaptive housing reuse of Darcy School.
The council separately voted unanimously to approve 2026 legislative recommendations but, after extended debate, signaled it would not ask state lawmakers to file an amendment to a 2022 conveyance of a 58-acre parcel this session, opting instead to build community consensus and return with a more specific request in 2027, leaving intact a valuation tied to a $2.6 million appraisal figure. A public hearing on the plan is set for February 9 before the Planning and Zoning Commission.
